What is the role of an obstetrician
It’s a doctor who specialises in delivering babies and producing medical care to mothers during pregnancy
What is the reason for routine tests (heart beat)
It will be checked at all antenatal appointments
To confirm baby is still alive

It is checked every appointment because raised blood pressure can cause eclampsia and requires special treatment
Can be more of risk if parent is over 40 or carrying twins or triplets

To identify any blood group, HIV and for diabetes

Will indicate how far into the pelvis the baby descended prior to birth and which way it’s facing

Checks for levels of protein, glucose
Can indicate to urine infection
What is reason for routine test ( weight check)
To check if it is steadily increasing
To see if baby stoped growing which indicates if mother has illness
