why did the first world war cause mistrust
russia had fought on the side of the allies, till the revolution in 1917, when new leaders withdrew from the war. britain and france could no longer trust russia as an ally
how did stalins regime cause mistrust
after lenin, stalin came to power who was more brutal and ruthless with bus ruling of the country with several secretive schemes and disappearances, arrest and murder of high profile figures leading to the west distrusting stalins government

nazi germany and the soviet union signed a non aggression pact in 1939. in return for avoiding an invasion and securing territory in poland, stalin entered an agreement with a government that persecuted communism giving the west further information that the east could not be trusted
how did the russian civil war cause mistrust
following the russian revolution of 1917, the reds (communists) and the whites (anti-communists) fought a brutal civil war for control of the fountry and west sent troops in support of the whites, which meant when the reds won control, they would not trust the west.

in the west, propaganda was used by the government and media to represent the communists as a threat to peoples way of life, while in the ussr, the western governments were seen as a threat to the revolution and opressors worldwide
