Cost of Living Crisis
By 1912, it was 14% higher than in 1906
Levels of unemployment.
From 1910, there was a fall in unemployment meaning works more confident to confront employers.
Inequality.
Despite liberal social reforms, gap between rich and poor was widening. Improved education of the workforce by 1912 meant more awareness of inequality made evident by Booth and Rowntree.
1906 Trade Disputes Act
Removed restrain that unions legally liable for costs of strike so now strikes possible again.
Federations.
Many unions joined together into federations such as Miners Federation = more power.
The Labour Party
Had not fulfilled the hope of w/c that it would get legislation, therefore they saw striking as the only way.
