really important stuff Flashcards
Which amino acids have negatively charged side chains?
Aspartic acid (asp) and glutamic adic (glu)
Which amino acids have positively charged side chains?
Arg, Lys and His
(Arginine, lysine and histidine)
Which amino acids have uncharged polar side chains?
Glutamine, serine, threonine, tyrosine and aspargine
What is the definition of kcat?
Kcat defines how fast ES complex proceeds to E + P.
It also defines the number of catalytic cycles that each active site undergoes per unit time.
between which values does an enzyme reach catalytic perfection?
between 10 *8 and 10 * 9 M/s
What happens to the Km and Vmax in competitive inhibition? And non-competitive inhibition?
- In competitive inhibition, the km increases, while vmax stays unaffected.
- In noncompetitive inhibition, km is unaffected, while vmax is lowered.
What does photosystem II do? And photosystem I?
Photosystem II uses light energy to extract electrons from water. These electrons are used for pumping protons.
In photosystem I, sunlight generates high-energy electrons that combine with NADP+ to produce NADPH. (Which enters the carbon-fixation cycle along with CO2)
Where are phosphatidylehanolamine, phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine produced?
- Phosphaditylethanolamine: mitochondrion
- Phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylcholine: ER
