includes all rational and irrational numbers
What are natural numbers?
Counting numbers
What are whole numbers?
counting numbers plus 0
What are integers?
whole numbers plus negative values
What are rational numbers?
any number that can be written in the form a/b where a and b are integers b is not 0
What numbers are rational?
natural, whole, and integer and repeating decimals
What are irrational numbers?
numbers that cannot be written as a/b
What are example of irrational numbers?
roots that are not whole numbers, decimals do not repeat in pattern, special numbers such as pi
Square root of a number can be…
positive or negative.. use both when solving an equation
What is the Principal Square Root?
when finding the square root and taking the positive square root
What are like radicals?
radicals with the same root under the radical sign, only like radicals may be added or subtracted
What is rationalizing the denominator?
a fraction where the denominator includes a radical and chaning the denominator to a rational number
What are the two types of triangles?
45-45-90 and 30-60-90
What is the ratio for the 45-45-90 triangle?
1:1:square root 2
What is the ratio for the 30-60-90 triangle?
1:square root 3:2
