The New Right which was a direct attack on the leftism of the Great Society program.

Opposed the increase of Lazy and Welfare dependent people, the rising number of strikes and protests and the increasing lack of law and order.

13000 air traffic control members were on strike, however they were sacked despite safety concerns.

Reagan very much agreed with many of their ideals and received a large amount of support from them as a consequence, He gave white house jobs to people from the religious right and considered passing anti abortion legislation however h opted to publicly oppose abortion instead.

$140 billion was reduced from welfare, Reagan achieved this through capping benefits and making less people eligible.
What did Reagan do to move from Welfare to Workfare?
At least one parent had to be working in order to claim a benefit, Work Programs were put in place and adequate Childcare was promised however parents still found it hard to work.

3.7 million people qualified for social housing but none was available due to Reagan slashing the federal budget for it.

He had slashed it from $32.2 billion in 1978 to $9.2 billion in 1988.

The Federal fund in 1984 was $300 million, in 1988 it had risen to $1.6 billion due to the drastic increase in homelessness.

1987 Mckinney act created the Federal Emergency Management Agency which provided transitional housing, emergency medical care, education, and job training for homeless people.
When was the Job Training Partnership Act passed and what did it do?
13th October 1982, Shifts job training from federal hands to the state level and private sector and removes the need for trainees to have their income reach the minimum wage.
When was the Social Security Reform bill passed and what did it do?
20th April 1983, made part of benefits payments taxable, changes the earnings test for eligibility, retirement credits not fully available until age 67.
When was the Family Support Act passed and what did it do?
It was passed on 13th October 1988, Family only eligible for benefits if one member is at work, single parents are expected to quit education and instead get a job, state will provide healthcare.
What did Reagan do in regards to Civil rights?
Absolutely nothing he wanted to reduce Federal Intervention, Middle class Black Americans got the same benefits out of Reaganomics as white Americans however Poorer Black Americans struggled due to the lack of funding.

Sandra Day, First woman on the supreme court however she spoke out against feminism as a member of the Christian Right.
