Q

What does Juror Eight propose as the jurors become more frustrated with him? In what manner will the second vote be taken? What position does Eight have in the second vote?

A

He says that the kid is only sixteen and that there might be no reason for them to have in this case. He has been living in a slum for 16 years of his life. The second vote would be a secret ballot and Juror 8 would stay out of it.

Q

Why is it important that Juror 8 found the same knife at another pawn shop?

A

It had a very unusual carved handle and blade. The storekeeper said it was the only one of its kind he had ever had in stock.” In other words, it seems like a moot point that the murder weapon was the same knife that the defendant bought from a shop earlier on the night of the murder. Juror 8 proved that the boy could be telling the truth.

Q

After the second vote, what is Juror Nine’s explanation for changing his vote?

A

He says that he is not saying the boy is not guilty, but needs to and wants to hear more about the case. He is gambling and gave his support to the 8th juror who just wants to hear more about the case before deciding. He said that he was standing alone and that is why he changed his vote.

Q

Who is the last juror to be convinced to change his vote? Why do you think he did change his vote?

A

It was the 3rd Juror, he didn’t want to be on the Hung Jury. Despite his temper and stubbornness, he has somewhat of a coherent voice in the deliberations. He is completely driven by his own demons to convict the boy, in place of his own son, with whom he has a troubled relationship.
