Theme
The broad idea,message or lesson in a story;the central message or universal idea.EXAMPLE: the theme of green eggs and ham by Dr.suess might be “have an open mind when trying something new.”
Setting
The time and place the story occurs; where and when it happened.
Plot
The sequence of events in the story; what happened in the story (beginning,middle and end ).
Simile
A comparison of two different things using “like”or “as”; stating that one thing is like the other.EXAMPLE:the soldier fought like a lion.
Infer
A conclusion based on the evidence of reasoning; read between the lines.
Point of view
The narration of the story ;the perspective from which it is told.
First person point of view
The narrator is part of the story ;the story is told though only the narrator thought and feeling; see only the narrator’s perspective the story uses l me or my
Third person omniscient point of view
A narrator who knows everything about all the characters perspective thoughts and feelings the narrator is not part of the story.he she they.
Third person limited point of view
The narrator is not part of the story but reveals only one character feeling and thoughts see only one character perspective the story uses he or she
Tone
The writer/speaker attitude toward a subject character or audience the tone is shown through the author choice of words and details in the text. Example of tone words: serious,happy,frightened,anxious,enthusiastic,or rude
Summary
(Or summarized)- to briefly restate the main points of the story.BME!
Opinion
A view or judgement formed about something
Fact
A truth known by actual experience or observations- something known to be true
