reactivity series Flashcards
Metal reactions with water
metal + water —–> Metal hydroxide + oxygen
Some metals react with water to produce a metal hydroxide + hydrogen
Metal reactions with acid
Metal + acid —–>salt + hydrogen
e. g. Potassium + hydrochloric acid
- —> potassium chloride + hydrogen
Some metals react with acid to produce a salt and hydrogen gas
Displacement reactions replacement
This is when a more reactive element takes the place of a less reactive element in the compound
e.g. Iron Sulfate + Zinc—->
Zinc sulfate + Iron
Displacement no reaction
A displacement no reaction is when the reaction doesnt happen because the less reactive element doesn’t take place over the more reactive element. Also when the same element reacts with each other there is no reaction because they have the same reactivity.
Most reactive to least reactive
Most Reactive Symbol
Potassium K Sodium Na Lithium Li Calcium Ca Magnesium Mg Aluminium Al Carbon C Zinc Zn Iron Fe Lead Pb Hydrogen H Copper Cu Silver Ag Gold Au
Least reactive
