What is reactive arthritis?
Arthritis associated with coexisting/recent antecedent extra-articular infection
What are some common causative organisms of reactive arthritis?
Chlamydia
Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter, Yersinia, Clostridium
What investigations are done for reactive arthritis?
Bloods: raised CRP/ESR, HLA-B27
Urine NAAT, vaginal swab, stool MCS
What is the classic triad of reactive arthritis?
Arthritis
Conjunctivitis
Urethritis
What are the other presentations of reactive arthritis?
Asymmetrical oligoarthritis / monoarthritis
Anterior uveitis
Keratoderma blenorrhagica
Circinate balanitis
Enthesitis - plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis
Back pain
What is the prognosis of reactive arthritis?
Often remission within 6-12 months of onset of arthritis
What is the management of reactive arthritis?
NSAIDs, intra-articular steroids
Low dose steroids
Rarely require DMARD (SZS), biologics
