Reactions of benzene Flashcards
1
Q
Halobenzene
A
benzene reacts with (X2) and FeBr3/AlCl3. Makes substituted benzene and HX.
FeBr makes bromobenzene, where as AlCl3 makes chlorobenzene.
2
Q
Nitration
A
Benzene reacts with concentrated nitric acid (HNO3) or concentrated sulferic acid (H2SO4), to make a nitrobenzene and H2O.
Nitrobenzene can undergo a reduction to form aminobenzene (dyes)
3
Q
Sulphonation
A
Benzene reacts with concetrated sulfric acid H2SO4, to form C6H5SO2OH (detergents)
4
Q
Alkylation
A
Benzene reacts with R-X with aluminium chloride (AlCl3) to form alkylbenzene.
