Reactions of acid and base Flashcards
Neutralization
Acid+base=water+salt
The net ionic equation
H(aq)+OH(aq)=H2O
Neutralization with base
Base+acid=water+salt+carbon dioxide
Acid +metal
H2+salt
Base reactions
Sodium hydroxide +aluminum +water
Acid+Alkali
Salt+water
Acid+metal hydroxide
Salt+water
Acid+metal carbonate
Salt+water+carbon dioxide
Titration
is used to determine the concentration of acid/base by adding base/acid of known concentration
Titrant
is slowly added from a burette into a known volume of sample solution in a receiving flask
Equivalence point
The titrant is added just until all Th e reactant in the sample is consumed
Monoprotic
Give up only one proton per molecule when dissolved in water
Diprotic
Give up a maximum of three protons per molecule when dissolved in water
Strong base
Compound that can completely dissociate into action and hydroxyl ion in a quo’s solution
Weak base
compound partially dissociates into it’s hydroxyl ion and the cation creating an equilibrium constant
