Q

Copper is obtained from its ore. Why wouldn’t this work for magnesium? (6m)

A
  • An ore is a rock from which a metal can be extracted from for profit
  • Copper is removed by carbon to displace our metal
  • Magnesium is more reactive than carbon and needs electrolysis
  • Copper+ carbon -> carbondioxide + copper
  • In copper equation Cu is being reduced and C is being oxidised
  • Mg is being reduced and C is being oxidised
