Q
Describe the mode of action of heterocatalysts (3m)
A
Overview: Heterocatalysts provides an alternative pathway with a lower Ea via adsorption
Steps:
Reactant molecules diffuse towards the catalyst surface and are adsorbed onto the active sites
This increases the concentration of reactant molecules on the catalyst surface.
INTRAmolecular bonds in reactant molecules are weakened, lowering the activation energy
Adsorption also brings reactant molecules closer together and ensures they are correctly oriented for reaction
After reaction, product molecules desorb and diffuse away from the catalyst surface, freeing up the active sites
