Reaction Kinetics Flashcards
Rate of reaction and its unit
Rate of reaction can be defined as change in concentration of reactants and products per unit time.
Unit: mol dm-3 s-1
order of reaction
Order of reaction can be defined as the power to which concentration of reactants are raised in the rate equation.
Half life
The time taken for initial concentration to be reduced to half.
t1/2 = ln2/k = 0.693/k
Rate equation
The equation is rate equation where K is proportionality constant.
Catalyst
The substances which increases the rate of reaction without changing itself.
Catalysis
Catalysis is a process of using catalyst.
Zero, First , Second Order Reaction
Dictate the graph and check in copy.
Homogeneous catalyst
If the catalyst and reactants are in the same state or phase the catalyst is called homogeneous catalyst. Homogeneous catalyst takes part in chemical reaction and changes the path of reaction. It lowers the activation energy and increases the rate of reaction
heterogeneous catalyst
If the catalyst and reactants are in different state or different phase then the catalyst is heterogeneous catalyst .The reactants get absorbed on the surface of heterogeneous catalyst and there will be more frequency of effective collision so the rate of reaction increases
