Reaction Flashcards
What is a physical reaction?
A change that is reversible
Examples: changes of state and dissolving
What is a chemical reaction?
A reaction that is irreversible
Examples:a change where atoms are rearrange to make a new substance
Signs of chemical reaction
Change of colour Formation of new substance Change of temperature Energy produced Formation of gas
What is neutralisation ?
This is a reaction that happens between an acid and an alkali. It produces a neutral solution
Ph scale order
Red, Pink , orange , dark yellow , yellow , green, dull green, green blue, blue , darker blue, purple , dark purple
What is a salt?
A substance formed during a chemical reaction between a metal element an acid or the reaction of an acid with a compound that contains metal.
Reactivity series
Potassium Sodium Calcium Magnesium Aluminium Carbon Zinc Iron Lead Hydrogen Copper Silver Gold
What are strong acids?
Are corrosive and can eat away at materials like metal, stone and flesh.
Acid + alkali =
Water + salt
Metals do not break they bend
Flexible
All metals are shiny when polished or freshly cut
Lustrous
All metals conduct electricity
Electrical conductor
Metals can be drawn into wires
Ducktile
Metals ring like a bell when hit - they do not make a cull thud
Sonorous
Metals allow energy to flow through them causing heating
Thermal conductor
