RE2 Flashcards
The 5 stages of the cell cycle
- Gap 1(G1): cell growth and normal functions
- DNA synthesis(S): DNA replicates
- Gap 2: Additional Growth
- Mitosis: Division of the nucleus
- Cytokinesis: is a part of cell division that is separate from mitosis
what is meiosis
Meiosis is a special type of cell division that results in 4 genetically different haploid cells.
meiosis involves two cell divisions unlike mitosis which only has 1.
Meiosis 2
Meiosis 2 begins with 2 haploid parent cells and results in 4 haploid daughter cells
what are the stages of mitosis?
-Prophase[prequel]
-Metaphase[middle]
-Anaphase
-Telophase[twins]
Mitosis and meiosis both…
start with a single parent cell and produce new cells
What is INTERPHASE and what happens during INTERPHASE
-Interphase is divided into 3 stages,G1,S and G2. these stages result in DNA replication and cell growth
Telophase
two new nuclei form and daughter chromosomes uncoil into chromatins.
draw out the 4 stages of mitosis using these terms: Nuclear membrane, cell membrane, chromosome, chromatid,
centriole, spindle fibre[ answer in physical booklet
What is the stage the cell spends most of its time?
Interphase
Anaphase
sister chromatids separate and are pulled to opposite sides of the cell.
What is mitosis?
Mitosis is a type of cell division that results in two daughter cells that have the same amount of chromosomes and Identical DNA to the parent cell
Meiosis 1
begins with one diploid parent cell and results in 2 haploid daughter cells
what is the cell cycle?
- the cell cycle is the cell’s life cycle
what is the final splitting of cells called?
cytokinesis
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in the center of the cell. Spindle fibres attach to centromeres.
