what is ‘moral evil’?
When people do cruel things on purpose or by someone’s purposeful actions.
Give a few examples of moral evil.
- car accidents caused by alcohol consumption
- murder
- the holocaust
- terrorist attacks
Why might someone commit something that comes under the ‘moral evil’ type of evil?
- environmental factors, such as abusive parents
- ‘social learning’ from family or peers
In Christianity, who/what is the devil?
- opposite of everything God represents
- force of evil
- exists to tempt people away from God
How did Satan/the devil come into existence according to Christianity?
Lucifer was an angel who tried to overthrow and destroy God through lies, accusations and deception. He became Satan and was cast out of heaven to rule over this world, where he tempts them to sin and hen overwhelms them with shame and discouragement.
what is ‘natural evil’?
‘natural evil refers to things that occur naturally and not because of the actions of people.
give a few examples of ‘natural evil’.
- hurricanes, tsunamis and earthquakes
- genetic conditions
- disease
How can humans have an impact on ‘natural evils’?
Certain behaviors may cause illness to be more likely to happen, social problems like poverty can increase the suffering initially caused by natural disasters.
