Re-Awaken the Giant Within - Tony Robbins Flashcards
How can a horrible situation produce 2 completely different people?
They react to the same situation with a different perspective
What is really behind the shaping of our lives?
It’s not the events of our lives that shape us, but our beliefs as to what those events mean.
How does one conquer the tough situations of life?
By creating a positive mindset about things which you cannot control
What role does meaning play in our lives?
it’s never the environment; it’s never the events of our lives, but the meaning we attach to the
events—how we interpret them—that shapes who we are today
What 2 questions does your brain ask when something happens?
‘Will this cause me pan or pleasure?’
What is the answer to our Pain/Pleasure question?
That answer is based on our beliefs
What drives our beliefs?
Our generalizations, about how what we’ve learned could lead to Pain or Pleasure
How can Generalizations be useful?
They are ‘simply’ the identification of similar patterns
How do Generalizations help us in life?
They simplify life and allow us to function, by not having to relearn all the common patterns we encounter throughout the day
What is a downside to having Generalizations?
In more complex areas of life they can ‘over simplify’ and sometimes create Limiting Beliefs
What happens when Limiting Beliefs are created by accident?
You may develop feelings of being incompetent
What is a large & widespread Limiting Belief caused by a over Generalization?
Racial Prejudice
What is the challenge with all of these beliefs?
They become limitations for future decisions about who you are and what you’re capable of
What is important to remember about our past?
That most of our beliefs are actually Generalizations about our past, based on our interpretations of painful and pleasurable experiences
What is the challenge of our past Generalizations?
1) most of us do not consciously decide what we’re going to believe; 2) often our beliefs are
based on misinterpretation of past experiences; and 3) once we adopt a belief, we forget it’s merely an interpretation.
