RDR - 4 Flashcards
1
Q
What is Radar Horizon
A
Limitation of the radar range based on Line of Sight (LOS) and
curvature of the earth.
2
Q
Explain the relationship between Pulse Width and Minimum Range.
A
- Directly propotionate
- A pulsed radar cannot receive a signal when it is transmitting.
- This means that a pulsed radar has a minimum range.
- Pulse Width determines the minimum range.
- The target must be greater than half the system Pulse
Width from the antenna.
3
Q
Define Range Resolution.
A
Range resolution is the ability of a radar to resolve between
two or more targets close together in range.
4
Q
Explain the relationship between PRF and Maximum Theoretical
Range.
A
- Inversely proportionate
- Maximum Theoretical Range is determined by the PRF.
- Maximum Theoretical range is determined by how long
the receiver can ‘listen’ for the echo before the next pulse is transmitted. - The lower the PRF, the greater listening time available
between pulses. - The higher the PRF, the less listening time available
between pulses.
