RDNA Technology Flashcards
To know steps in rdna technology, tools needed and definition of tools
What are the steps for RDNA Technology?
Isolation of desired gene by using restriction enzymes which cuts DNA at specific sites.
Next, using the same restriction enzyme ,the plasmid linearized by being cleaved, creating a site for the insertion of the desired gene. Thus, obtaining a recombinant plasmid
Thereafter, the plasmid is introduced to a bacteria cell, through a process called transformation.
Finally, the bacteria cell divides and produces the desired genes
Tools needed for RDNA Technology?
- Plasmids
- Restriction enzymes - Enzymes that cut DNA
- Gel electrophoresis
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Processes needed in RDNA Technology?
- Linearization of plasmid (cutting of plasmid using the same restriction enzyme)
- Ligation
- Transformation (Introduction of recombinant plasmid to a host organism)
Function of restriction enzyme
- To cut DNA at specific sites
What is a vector?
It is a plasmid that is used to transfer DNA into a living cell
What is a plasmid?
A small circular DNA used to transfer DNA into a living cell
