RCP primaria Flashcards
characteristics of high quality compressions
= start chest compressions within 10 sec of ID
= 100 - 120 compressions per minute
= 5 - 6 cm in depth (1.5 inches for infants)
= C - A - B order
= 30 compressions for every 2 rescue breaths (in adults, and for 1 rescuer CPR in all age groups)
= 15 compressions for every 2 rescue breaths (in children and infants)
= allow for complete chest recoil after each compression
= don’t over ventilate, assure that the breaths make chest rise
= assess for shockable rhythm ASAP (when AED arrives)
when must you begin CPR
if the person isn’t breathing or is only gasping for air, has no pulse or if you are unsure, is unresponsive
order of the adult chain of survival
recognize symptoms & activate EMS –> perform early CPR –> defibrilate with AED –> ALS –> post cardiac arrest care
order of the pediatric chain of survival
prevent arrest –> perform early CPR –> activate EMS –> ALS –> post cardiac arrest care
** children and infants most often have resp. problems that can trigger a cardiac arrest
what are some key points for BLS
- quickly start the chain of survival
- deliver high quality chest compressions
- know when and how to use an AED
- provide rescue breathing
- understand how to work with others
- know how to treat choking
one rescuer CPR steps for adults
- be safe, assess the area, be dry
- ID de person (shake the person and talk to them loudly- check breathing
- call EMS if nonresponsive and get an AED or tell someone to do it // don’t leave pt unatended
- check for carotid pulse (<10 sec)
- use the heel of one hand on the lower half of the sternum in the middle of the chest and put your other hand on top
- straighten your arms and start high quality chest compressions
- after 30 chest compressions open the airway by the heat-tild-chin-lift maneuver and give 2 rescue breaths
- resume chest compressions
adult mouth-to-mask and bag-mask ventilation caracteristics
you have to seal the mask against the persons face by placing 4 fingers of one hand across the top of the mask and the thumb of the other hand along the bottom edge of the mask
open the airway using the head tilt or chin lift unless pt may have head/neck injury
ventilate delivering a breath over one second as you watch the pts chest rise
frequency of rescue breathing when an adult pt has a pulse but irregular breathing
admin 1 breath every 5 - 6 seconds (10-12 breaths / min)
asses pulse every 2 mins
frequency of rescue breathing in an adult pt without pulse and irregular / no breathing
30 chest compressions for every 2 rescue breaths
frequency of rescue breathing in an pediatric pt without pulse and irregular / no breathing when there is on rescuer available
30 compressions for every 2 breaths
frequency of rescue breathing in an pediatric pt without pulse and irregular / no breathing when there are two rescuers available
15 compressions for every 2 breaths
T/F. when the pt is of pediatric age and you are alone in the scene you must perform CPR for 2 mins BEFORE you call EMS / call for help / get AED
TRUE
frequency of rescue breathing when a pediatric pt has a pulse but irregular breathing
admin 1 breath every 3-5 seconds (12 - 20 breaths / min)
asses pulse every 2 mins
how should chest compressions be in infants (0-12 months)
1 rescuer: 30C:2B
2 rescuers: 15C:2B
compress using 2 fingers of 2 thumbs - encircling hands
compressions should be 1/3 of chest depth at the center of the child’s chest
caracteristics of the Heimlich Maneuver in pt responsive >1yr old
- stand behind the person, wrap arms around their waist under the ribcage
- put side of fist above persons navel and in the middle of their belly
- with other hand, hold the first fist and press forcefully into the persons abdomen and upwards their chest
- continue until obstrucction is relieved, start BLS is pt becomes unresponsive
