Raw Crude System Flashcards
What does the raw rude system take in?
- Crude Oil
- Sponge Oil
- Slop Oil
- Crude Tank Water Draw
What are chemicals used in the raw crude system?
- Water Soluble Demulsifier
- Oil Soluble Demulsifier
- Caustic
What are outputs of the raw crude system?
• Desalted Crude
What are waste streams of the raw crude system?
• Oily Brine
What is the purpose of the desalters?
To remove salts and sediments
What is the purpose of the electric grids in the desalters?
They cause the water droplets to form larger drops, making them easier to fall out of the crude.
What is the purpose of injecting water soluble demulsifier into the inlet of the 1st stage of the desalters?
This injection prevents high oil content in the effluent brine discharged from the 1st Stage Desalter
What is the purpose of injecting oil soluble demulsifier upstream of the raw crude charge pumps?
This is done to keep emulsion problems from occurring inside the desalters
What all is injected at the suction of the raw crude charge pumps?
Sponge Oil
Slop Oil
Oil Soluble Demulisfier
What are the numbers of the raw crude regulators?
How are the flows split between the two? Why?
10004A, 10004B
Evenly, To help maintain the level in the flash drum
What is the temperature of the raw crude entering the unit?
Ambient temperature
What is the tempature of the raw crude after the raw crude exchangers?
300 degrees
Why is the crude heated before going to the desalters?
The crude must be at higher temperature to maximize the effectiveness of the desalters by improving water/oil separation
Why is caustic injected after the second stage desalters?
This is done to combat possible presence of HCl , a strong acid. This acid forms from decomposition of salt (NaCl), which can corrode the overhead system of the crude and vacuum tower.
How many exchangers are in Train 1?
13
