Rational functions Flashcards
1
Q
How to find a horizontal asymptote
A
N < D, then the horizontal asymptote is y = 0.
N = D, then the horizontal asymptote is y = ratio of leading coefficients. Ex: 3x^2/x^2=3
N > D, then there is no horizontal asymptote.
2
Q
how to find vertical asymptote
A
by solving the equation n(x) = 0 where n(x) is the denominator of the function
or solve for x in denominator
3
Q
How to find the hole of an equation
A
When both the denominator and numerator equal 0
