Q

How can you measure the decrease in mass?

A

If a reaction produces a gas the the reaction can be carried out on a top-ban balance. As the reaction releases the gas and it escapes the container, the mass will decrease. This change in mass can be recorded at regular time intervals

Q

How can you measure the volume of gas produced?

A

Another way to measure the rates of reaction is produced is to use a gas syringe or upturned measuring cylinder in a bowl of water. This apparatus allows you to measure the volume of gas that is produced in a certain amount of time.

Q

How can you measure the time time for the X to disappear.

A

If a reaction produces an insoluble product then an X can be placed on a piece of paper underneath the reaction and a stop watch used to measure how long it takes until the X can no longer be seen as the solution becomes more and more cloudy. This shows how quickly the products have been made.
