Rates Of Reaction (RP) Flashcards
Whats the method of Rates of reaction?
1) measure( 50 cm^3 ) the amount of sodium thiosulphate
2) pour the measured amount of sodium thiosulphate into the beaker
3) measure 10 cm^3 of the hydrochloric acid
4) as soon as you add the acid into the beaker with the sodium you need to start the timer
5) swirl the solution around to mix it properly
6. Observe from above until the cross is no longer visible
7) carry the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate by adding distilled water (keep the measurement of the combined liquids to 50 cm ^3
8) measure out the hydrochloric acid (10 cm^3)
9) add both solutions to the beaker and start the timer
10) repeat this 3 more times for a total of 5 tests (changing the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate each time)
11) can repeat the experiment to ensure accurate results
12) plot a graph of sodium thiosulphate against the reaction time
13) we can see on the graph as the concentration of sodium thiosulphate increases the reaction time decreases
What’s are the variables in this experiment
Independent variable= concentration
Dependant variable = reaction time
Sources of error:
Human error: make sure it’s the same person watching the cross disappear
Measurement error: measuring the exact amount
