Rates of Reaction and Energy Changes Flashcards
Core Practical: Measure the production of a gas in the reaction between hydrochloric acid and marble chips
Place 5cm^3 of hydrochloric acid in two conical flasks. Get 2 marble chips with the same original surface area. Break one chip into 2 pieces and break the other into 5 pieces. Place the one with two pieces into the one of the conical flasks. Quickly place a bunk on the conical flask and attach a gas syringe to it. The measurement of the syringe will say how much CO2 has been produced. Take a measurement every 10 seconds and then graph it with time as your x axis and volume of CO2 produced as the y axis. Repeat with the 5 pieces.
You should see the 5 pieces produce more CO2
