Rates of reaction Flashcards

1
Q

Explain what effect particle size has on the rate of reaction.

A

The smaller the particle size the faster the reaction, as there is more surface area for the acid to reaction on.

Q

Explain the effect of a catalyst on the rate of reaction.

A

A catalyst speeds up a reaction. it reduces the energy needed for the reaction to happen.

A catalyst can be recovered chemically unchanged after it is used to speed up a reaction.

3
Q

Explain the effect of the temp on the rate of reaction.

A

The the temp the faster the reaction.

The lower the temp the slower the reaction.

Why? the higher the temp the more energy, the particles then move around quicker which results in more successful collisions.
Particles collide with more energy.

Q

Explain the effect of conc on the rate of reaction.

A

The more concentrated the solution the more successful collision as the particles are in more close contact with each other. Therefore the more concentrated the solution the faster the reaction.
