Rates of Reaction Flashcards
what are the two equations to work out the mean rate of reaction
quantity of product formed divided by
time taken
2.
quantity of reactant used divided by
time taken
describe the effect of concentration on the rate of reaction
the higher the concentration = the higher the number of frequent successful collisions = faster rate of reaction
why do we have more product at the end of a reaction with a high concentration?
because we had more reactant molecules to begin with
describe the effect of surface area on the rate of reaction
larger surface area = more successful collisions per second = faster rate of reaction
describe the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction
increasing the temperature = particles have more energy = particles move faster = more successful collisions per second = faster rate of reaction
