Rates Of Reaction Flashcards
What is meant by the rate of reaction?
How fast the reactants are converted into products.
Which could you measure to find out the rate of a reaction?
The volume.
What does an independent variable mean?
A variable you are trying to change.
What does a dependent variable mean?
A variable you are trying to measure.
Is temperature a continuous variable or a categoric variable.
Continuous variable.
Does powdered solids react faster or do larger lumps (solids) react faster?
Powdered solids
What are Catalysts?
Catalysis is the increase in rate of a chemical reaction due to an added substance known as a catalyst. Catalysts are not consumed by the reaction and remain unchanged after it.
What is the gradient?
The higher the gradient of a graph at a point, the steeper the line is at that point. A negative gradient means that the line slopes downwards.
What is meant by accuracy.
When you try to get your result as close to the true value.
Precision
How consistent.
Pressure is equivalent to what for gaseous reactant(s) and product(s)
In the context of gaseous reactants and products in a chemical reaction, pressure is directly related to the number of moles of gas present. This relationship is described by the ideal gas law, which states:
P
P is the pressure,
V
V is the volume,
n
n is the number of moles of gas,
R
R is the ideal gas constant,
T
T is the temperature.
What is the state symbol of reactant(s) and product(s) that are affected by changing the pressure of your reaction vessel?
In a chemical reaction, the state symbols indicate the physical state of each substance involved. The common state symbols are:
(g): Gas
(l): Liquid
(s): Solid
(aq): Aqueous (dissolved in water)
What is Activation Energy?
Activation energy is the minimum amount of energy that must be supplied to initiate a chemical reaction. It is the energy required to break the bonds in the reactant molecules so that the reaction can proceed
What are enzymes?
Enzymes are proteins that act as biological catalysts by accelerating chemical reactions
What two elements make up Hydrogen Peroxide (H202)?
Water (H20) + Oxygen (02)
