RATE OF REACTION REVISION Flashcards
Definintion of rate of reaction
The rate of reaction is the change in concentration of reactants or products per a time
What factors effect the rate of reaction?
Tempreture,concentration,pressure,surface area,and catalysts
What is collision theory?
It states that for a reaction to occour the particles must collide forcefully and with sufficent energy and at the right orientation for a reaction to occour
What is the unit expressed in terms of concentration and time?
Mol or m/s
What are catalysts
Substances that increace the rate of reaction by providing a diffrent pathway with lower activation energy
What is activation energy?
The minimum of energy required for a reaction to occour
Effect on tempreture
Increcing the tempreture increaces the rate of reaction because by providing more kenetic energy to particles leading to more feaquent and stronger collisions
Effect on concentration
Higher concentration of reactants typically leads to faster rates of recation due to increaced collisons
Effect on surface area
Larger surface area of solid reactants incereces the rate of reaction by exposing more particles to collisons
