Explain the effects of adding a catalyst to the rate of reaction

  1. The iron is added to act as a catalyst. This speeds up the rate of reaction because a catalyst provides an alternative pathway for the reaction with a lower activation energy level.
  2. Therefore, more particles/collisions have sufficient energy to overcome the activation energy, and so there are more effective collisions /faster rate of reaction.
