Rate of Reaction Paper 2 Flashcards
What is the aim of the rate of reaction experiment?
Effect of concentration on rate of reaction.
What is the reaction in disappearing cross?
Sodium thiosulfate+ hydrochloric acid=Sulfur(solid)
What is the method for the disappearing cross?
-Measure 10cm of sodium thiosulfate solution in conical flask and place on black cross.
-Add 10cm of hydrochloric acid swirl and start stopwatch.
-Stop clock once cross disappears and repeat with different concentrations multiple times to find mean.
What is a reproducible measurement?
Can be repeated by another person using different technique and similar results.
What is the reaction in the gas collected?
Magnesium+ Hydrochloric acid=Magnesium Chloride Hydrogen
What is the method for gas collected?
-Measure 50cm of hydrochloric acid in conical flash and attach conical flask to burg and delivery tube
-Place delivery tube in container filled with water and place upturned measuring cylinder filled with water over delivery tube.
-Add 3cm strip of magnesium to hydrochloric acid and start stop watch.
-Hydrogen gas trapped in cylinder and measure every 10 seconds until no more gas and repeat at different concentrations.
What is the overall conclusion of concentration on rate of reaction?
Shows greater concentration faster rate of reaction-results are reproducible.
What is the yield of a reaction?
End amount
How is a reversible reaction able to reach equilibrium?
Forward and backward reaction at the same rate in a closed system.
