Rate Of Reaction Flashcards
What does a shallow gradient show on a graph?
It shows a Slow reaction
What does a steep gradient show on a graph ?
It shows a fast reaction
What four things affect the rate of reaction ?
Temperature
surface area
presence of a catalyst
concentration of the solution or pressure of gas
How does increasing temperature increase the rate of reaction ?
Particles’s move faster when temperatures increased
If they move faster they are going to collide frequently
The faster they move the more energy they have so more collisions will happen.
How does increasing concentration or pressure increase the rate of reaction?
If the solution is more concentrated it means that there are more particles in the same volume of water or solvent
Therefore the particles collide more frequently
Why would we want particles to collide ?
So we get a reaction
How does surface area increase the rate of reaction?
Surface area increases the rate of reaction because there’s a bigger surface area to volume ratio.
What is a catalyst
A catalyst is a substance that starts or increases the rate of reaction
How do you work out the rate of reaction ?
Amounts of reactions used up or products formed
