Rate Of Reaction Flashcards
What is a catalyst?
A catalyst is something that speeds up a reaction without being used up itself
How do you calculate Rate of Reaction?
Quantity of reactants used/Time taken or quantity of product formed/time taken
How does a catalyst work?
It speeds up a reaction by providing a lower energy pathway
What is rate of reaction?
Rate of Reaction (RoR) is the speed at which reactants become products
What affects rate of reaction?
Catalysts, temperature, concentration/pressure, surface area
What are the three main methods for measuring ROR?
Measuring the volume of gas produced over time, measuring the loss in mass over time(when a gas is being produced), measuring the formation of a precipitate over time
What is needed for a reaction to be successful?
Particles need to collide with activation energy and with the correct orientation
What is concentration?
Concentration is a measure of the amount or number of reactant particles in a given volume
Define Rate of Reaction?
Number of fruitful reaction/s between reactants
How can pressure increase ROR in gases?
Pressure increase leads to volume decrease and decrease in volume leads to increase in concentration
