Rate Of Collisions Flashcards
Surface area
Increasing the surface area of the reatctant particles expose more particlea at the same time which increases the rate of collisions between them and increases the reaction rate
Concentration
Increasing the concentration of the reactant particles decreases the distance between the particles which increases the rate of collisions between them and increases the reaction rate
Temperature
Increasing the temperature will increase the proportion of reactant collisions that have enough kinetic energy to meet the activation energy so it increases the rate of successful collisions which increases the reaction rate
Also, by increasing the kinetic energy of the reactant particles, the particles move faster and so the rate of collisions increases which also increases the reaction rate.
Agitation
Agitation increases the number of reactant particles exposed to each other at the same time which increases the rate of collisions which increases the reaction rate
Catalysts
These are substances which increase the rate of chemical reactions but are not consumed or chemically changed during the reaction.
Catalysts provide alternate reaction pathway with a lower activation energy. This means a greater proportion of reactant particles will have suffcient kinetic energy to meet the activation energy which increases the rate of successful collisions which increases the reaction rate
What is an independent varible
The thing your changing
What is a dependent varible
The thing your measuring
What is a controlled varible
The thing your keeping the same
What is the accuarcy
How close a measurement to the true or accepted value
What is reliablility
How close each experiments results were to each other
What is validity
Write your controlled varibles you didnt control
