when is it recommended that a woman have the pertussis vaccination?
A
the best timing is between 20 and 32 weeks
the antibody levels peak 2 weeks after vaccination and transfer of maternal antibodies to the fetus occur from 30 weeks so ideally given before 30 weeks

what if the pertussis vaccination is given earlier than 20 weeks

no worries
13/40 is still associated with maternal antibodies in infants

if a woman presents prior to conceiving - expressing interest in conceiving
what advice would you give her regarding vaccinations for pregnancy?
A
- check chickenpox and rubella immunity
- if not immune then preconception vaccination is recommended
- advised not to conceive within 28 days of vaccinations
