Q

What area of O&G would resources be beneficial

A

Funding/staffing: 1000 midwives short in NZ. Difficult to find LMC or an LMC that is culturally safe/competent. Risk of unbooked pregnancy. Affects antenatal/intrapartum care as has to be provided by core midwives in hospital who are already stretched thin. Increased risks of complications and things being missed. Antenatal clinic overrun. No continuity of care. Poor health outcomes, worse for certain patient populations e.g. Maori/Pacific/immigrants

Funding for scanning: scanning is crucial for diagnosis, planning for further management. Difficult to get scanning in AKL around Nov/Dec. Long waiting lists. Poorer health outcomes, people being lost to follow up.
