When do you salute?
- meeting someone entitled by grade
- playing of any national anthem, to the color, hail the chief, pledging allegeince
- at reveille during the raising or lowering of the flag
- when rendering reports
- when turning over control of formation
- passing of colors
When do you not salute?
- Indoors, except when reporting to an officer when on duty
- to a prisoner
- when a person is carrying something in both hands and it is impractical
- when either the senior or subordinate is in civilian clothes
How to report indoors
- remove head gear
- knock and wait for response
- stop two steps from the desk, halt saltue and report “Sir Private Hughes reports”
- holds salute until it has been returned
How to report outdoors
- approach officer
- stop three steps from officer
- Salute and report until salute has been returned
- when the subordinate is dismissed he salutes again
Saluting in formation
-only at the command of “Present, ARMS”
Saluting not in formation
-When an officer approaches the group. the group is called to attention by the first person that notices the officer and then salute
Battalion XO
- supervises and coordinates all staff functions
- assists battalion commander and is command at his absence
- attends weekly training meetings
Battalion CSM
- advises BXO
- maintains cadet accountability
- conducts training to ensure it meets BCO intent
- attends battallion training meetings
Battalion S-1 (Administration)
- responsible for cadet accountability (promotions and absences are documented
- coordinates and executes social functions
- provides status reports at each weekly training meeting
Battalion S-3 (Operations)
-responsible for operations and training in battalion
-prepares weekly training meetings

Battalion S-4 (logistics officer)
- planning and coordinating logistics
- prepares logistical portion of OPORD
- coordinates with supply technician to ensure accountability for property
Battalion PAO
- coordinates PAO actives with cadre S1

Company CO
- commands company day-to-day
- reports daily to BCO on morale, welfare, accountability
- plans, organizes, and executes company training
- responsible for MS1 and MSII being prepared for their following ROTC years
Company XO
-assists CCO and is in charge in his absence
Company 1S
- holds company formations
- conducts and supervises training
- checks NCOs for knowledge, appearace
PL
- responsible for platoons day-to-day
- plans organizes and executes platoon training
PSG
- assists PL
- holds PL formations
- works with 1S on accountability or equipment
- acts on PL behalf in his absence
SL
- holds formations
- checks uniforms and equipment
- knows squad members strengths and weakness
