Random2 Flashcards
The saturation point is also called the dew point. True or False?
True.
Where are hygrometers found?
These are found in a white louvered/ventilated box called a Stevenson screen.
How is cloud cover measured and the coverage for FEW, SCT, BKN, OVC?
By the amount of cloud which can be seen in the sky.
• Sky clear (SKC) No clouds
• Few (FEW) 1-2 oktas
• Scattered (SCT) 3-4 oktas
• Broken (BKN) 5-7 oktas
• Overcast (OVC) 8 oktas
What is mist and fog?
A suspension of very small water droplets in the air reducing the horizontal visibility at the surface of the earth.
What is the difference between mist and fog?
Fog -visibility less than 1000 metres.
Mist -visibility 1000 up to 5000 metres.
How is mist and fog created?
Both mist and fog are created when the air becomes saturated and water vapour condenses to form droplets that hang in the air.
When are mists and fogs more likely to occur?
Air becomes saturated more quickly at lower temperatures, so mists and fogs are more likely when:
a) the air is very humid and/or
b) the air is relatively cool.
Dew points indicate the amount moisture in the air. True or False?
True. The higher the dew points, the higher the moisture content of the air at a given temperature.
QNH is “normally” higher than QFE. True or false?
True.
What is CAVOK?
Clouds and Visibility OK.
A term used when the following MET conditions are all occurring at the same time:
1) Visibility 10km or more
2) Clouds: no clouds of operational significance
3) Weather: no weather of significance to aviation.
4) above conditions occurring simultaneously.
What is QNH?
A pressure value that is set on the sub scale of a pressure altimeter so that it reads the aerodrome elevation when the aircraft is on the ground and height above sea level (true altitude.)
What does TTPP stand for?
Piarco International.
What does RASH mean on the METAR?
Light Rain and Showers
What happens when temperature and dew point are the same ?
Clouds and fog begin to form.
Dew point temperature can be higher than air temperature. True or false?
False. Dew point temperature is NEVER GREATER than air temperature.
