Q

GHB

A

When taken in excessive doses, this illicit drug causes rapid onset of CNS and respiratory depression, myoclonic jerking and bradycardia. Management of intoxication is supportive. The duration of toxic effects is short, with complete recovery occurring within 4–8 hours. Gamma-butyrolactone and 1,4-butanediol are precursor drugs that are rapidly metabolised to GHB and cause identical toxicity.
