RANDOM QUESTIONS Flashcards
1
Q
If you activated all anti-ice systems and ice was still present in significant quantities on the airframe, what would you do?
A
Descend to a warmer air mass
Divert to a warmer air mass
Avoid visible moisture to avoid further ice build up
2
Q
What’s the problems associated with volcanic ash?
A
- serious engine damage
- loss of visibility due to windscreen abrasion - loss of communications due to static discharge (P-S
tatic) - air conditioning may be infected due to ingestion of volcanic dust - pitot and static ports get blocked
3
Q
What would you do if flying into volcanic ash?
A
- in-flight ignition on
- disengaged the auto throttles
- turn on wing and engine anti ice to increase bleed extraction
- Air conditioning packs on high flow
- reduce power on engines to as low as possible ensure terrain clearance, it maybe necessary to shut down and restart engines to avoid excessive temp and damage.
4
Q
Between what levels do Lightning mostly occur?
A
Between 5’000 - 15’000 ft.
Risk decreases over 20’000 ft. Long Haul flights are less affected cause they stay higher up for longer time
Between temps +5 to -5 deg C
