explain how a force is created in terms of gas particles
in a gas the hotter it is the faster the particles move. the high speed of the particles results in collisions that apply a force across the surface area of the wall
describe how a force is created in terms of momentum
as particles collide against a wall a change in momentum occurs. as collisions increase each second momentum changes largely each second. this change results in a force being exerted against the wall of the container. pressure = force/area or pressure is exerted due to the sum of all the collision forces
describe how a liquid cools by evaporation
evaporation occurs when more energetic particles escape the surface of the liquid As this happens energy is lost by the liquid. The average kinetic energy of remaining particles decreases meaning that the temperature of the remaining liquid will also decrease
F.A.T
factors affecting temperature
- surface area of liquid
- draft above liquid
- temperature of liquid
fun facts about pressure
- increasing temperature of a gas with volume constant will increase the pressure
- when a gas is compressed its density increases
- decreasing volume of a gas with temperature constant will increase the pressure
what physical properties of a substance can change when it is heated
- the volume and density
2. the electrical resistance
F.I.S
factors increasing sensitivity
- using a thermometer with a smaller glass bulb
- using a narrow tube
- using a glass bulb with a thinner wall
- elongate the capillary
internal energy consists of which 2 types of energy
kinetic
potential
what happens to internal energy when a substance is heated
the internal energy will increase as well as the kinetic energy
