What are the conditions for a function to be continuous at a point?
1) f(c) exists
2) lim x->c f(x) exists
3) lim x->c f(x) = f(c)
When does a limit not exist?
1) If the LL does not equal the RL
2) If there is unbounded behavior (VA)
3) If there is oscillating behavior
What do you always do first when finding a limit?
Direct substitution
If you are finding a limit and you get 0/0, what do you do?
Use dividing out, rationalizing, multiply by the LCD, or use trig rules
If you are finding a limit and you get #/0, what do you do?
Use the number line technique, and it’s +-∞
When finding the HA or end behavior at +-∞, how do you use the leading term test? plus non-rational
If the power of num > den, divide the leading terms
If the power of den > num, it is 0
If the powers are equal, divide the coefficients of the leading terms
If non-rational, ignore adding and subtracting and simplify or use direct substitution. And if -∞, add a - sign.
