Random 4 Flashcards
What are the minimum levels for IFR operation where no such minimum flight altitude has been established?
• Over high terrain or mountainous areas: 2000ft above the highest obstacle and within 8 km of the aircraft position.
• Elsewhere:
1000ft above the highest obstacle and within 8 km of the aircraft position.
For IFR and controlled VFR flights the following CHANGES to their FPL shall be notified to the appropriate ATS unit:
• Route
• Airspeed if different by ± 10 knots
• Cruising level
• Estimate if different by more than 2 minutes.
• Destination
What are the changes to FPL that must be reported for other VFR flights?
• Fuel
• Flight level
• Elapsed time
• Destination
What is the voice communication failure procedure if in VMC?
• Continue to fly in VMC.
• Land at nearest suitable aerodrome.
• Report arrival expeditiously.
• Complete an IFR flight accordingly.
Define flight level.
A surface of constant atmospheric pressure which is related to a specific pressure datum of 1013.2 hPa, and is separated from other such surfaces by specific pressure intervals.
What would make an aircraft be considered as an overtaking aircraft?
Overtaking aircraft: Approaches from the rear on a line forming an angle of less than 70° from the plane of symmetry of the other aircraft.
Which aircraft has the right of way in an overtaking?
The aircraft which is being overtaken shall have the right of way, and the overtaking aircraft shall keep well clear.
What are the lights that are to be displayed from sunrise to sunset or as prescribed by the appropriate authority?
1) Navigation lights
2) Anti collision lights
3) Lights intended to indicate the extremities of their structure.
4) Lights to indicate that the engines are running
What is the procedure for the closing of a FPL?
• In the form of an arrival report to the appropriate ATS unit.
• Required for any flight that submitted a FPL.
• Effected at earliest possible time after landing or transmitted immediately prior to landing if no facilities available at destination.
• Sent in person, radio transmission, data link or quickest means available.
What is the difference between a distress signal and an urgency signal?
Distressed signals are used in grave and imminent danger where immediate assistance is required.
Urgency signals are used when an aircraft wishes to give notice concerning the safety of a ship, an aircraft or some other vehicle or of a person on board or within sight.
What are the rules governing the operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS).
• Prior coordination with appropriate authority to operated over the high seas.
• RPAS shall meet the performance and equipment carriage requirements.
• Operation shall be approved by appropriate authority.
• Flight plans shall be submitted
• Special authorization from states concerned to operate across territorial boundaries.
.
What are RPAs?
Remotely piloted aircraft are unmanned aircraft piloted from a remote pilot station.
What are the general operating rules for unmanned free balloons
• Shall not be operated without appropriate authorization from the state.
• Shall not operate across the territory of another state without appropriate authorization from the other State.
• Shall comply with conditions specified by the State of Registry and the State(s) expected to be overflown.
• Shall not be operated to create a hazard to persons or property not associated with the operation.
• Shall not be operated over the high seas without prior coordination with the appropriate ATS authority.
What are unmanned free balloons?
Non-power-driven, unmanned, lighter-than-air aircraft in free flight.
What are the actions taken by a controlled VFR flight when unable to continue in VMC?
Request amended clearance:
• To continue in VMC to destination
• To proceed to the alternate aerodrome
• To leave control airspace.
If no clearance can be obtained then:
• Continue in VMC
• Notify the appropriate ATC unit
• Leave the airspace or land at another aerodrome
• Request Special VFR
• Request IFR
