Ram Flashcards
The only time data and programs can be used is when it is?
Moved to RAM
What does RAM stand for?
Random access memory
What does ROM stand for?
Read only memory
Where is ROM most commonly used?
BIOS
What does PROM stand for?
Programmable ROM
What does EPROM stand for?
Erasable programmable ROM
What does EEPROM stand for?
Electrically erasable programmable ROM
What is the dif fence between the four ROMs?
ROM- not changeable unless physically replaced
PROM- programmable once. If changes needed you must replace
EPROM- if you remove from motherboard, you can write, erase, and write again.
EEPROM- can be flashed. Can be updated while on the mother board.
What is SRAM and what is it used for?
Static RAM
Doesn’t need to be refreshed
Fast memory
What is DRAM and where is it used most often?
Dynamic RAM
needs constant refreshing
Has a TTL- time to live
What is SDRAM?
Synchronous DRAM
Synchronizes with the system clock.
What is RDRAM?
Ram bus DRAM
Faster, was created by a third party and was expensive
What is DDR SDRAM?
Double data rate synchronous DRAM
Twice the rate of old ram
Magic number 16
DDR2 SDRAM
Double DDR
Magic number 32
DDR3 SDRAM
Twice DDR2
Magic number is 64
