Rainfall Flashcards
What Is conventional rainfall?
Where the sun heats the ground, water vapour comes up from the ground, then it gets so high that it condenses, then rains.
Frontal rainfall is when…
Two air masses with different temperatures meet. The hotter one goes on top of the cold one then as it gets higher, it gets colder- then condenses then rains.
What is relief rainfall
Where in an air mass approaches a hill, and is forced to rise, therefore condensing then raining
What is the most common air mass
Polar Maritime.
Why is the west coast rainy?
Because it is mountainous and the North Atlantic drift makes relief rain fall.
What is the leeward side of the mountain also know as?
The shadow effect.
Watching the five air masses
Polar continental, tropical continental, arctic maritime, polar maritime, topical maritime.
What is weather?
Air pressure, rainfall, humidity, temperature, wind speed, wind direction
