RAID Levels Flashcards
RAID level 0
Striping with no redundancy features. Used to extend disk life and to improve performance.
RAID
Technique for adding redundancy, lengthening disk life, improving performance, and enabling relatively uninterrupted access to data.
Striping
Spreading data equally over two or more drives
RAID level 1
Disk mirroring. Data is duplicated onto multiple drives, typically two disks. In event of failure, data can be read from the secondary disk.
Disk duplexing
Similar to mirroring, but each disk is managed by a separate adapter
RAID level 5
Block level striping with distributed parity. Data I striped block by block across the disks in the array.
RAID 0+1 (or RAID 01)
A mirrored set of striped disks. At minimum, this arrangement requires four drives.
RAID 1+0 (or RAID 10)
A striped set of mirrored disks.
Disk duplexing
Similar to disk mirroring, but each disk is managed by a separate adapter.
