What is the purpose of the RAID Open Circuit Try Dive?
The RAID Try Dive program is designed to give non-certified or certified divers a controlled dive experience as a general introduction to SCUBA diving.
THIS IS NOT A CERTIFICATION PROGRAM.
What are the prerequisites for the RAID Open Circuit Try Dive?
- Be a minimum of 12 years of age.
- Before any in water participation, all participants must complete registration:
a. Online OR
b. Use the RAID Try Dive Registration procedures as required, which includes but not limited to the form supplied through RAID Regional Offices (RRO).Paper work registration includes but not limited to;
• RAID Liability Release & Assumption of Risk Agreement
• Medical Statement.
When is guardian consent required to dive?
Guardian consent required for all persons below 18 years old.
What course content must be completed prior to any in water experience for the RAID Open Circuit Try Dive?
Prior to any in water experience, the participant must read through the minimum required online training materials through either the RAID web page or mobile application, and/or be presented the relevant theory by renewed RAID Try Dive Specialty Instructor using RAID Try Dive presentation materials (i.e. Flip Chart)
What are the maximum depths for Open Water or Confined Water (pool) for the RAID Open Circuit Try Dive?
The Maximum depth must not exceed 12 metres / 40 feet in Open Water or 5 metres / 15 feet in Confined Water – Pool
When can Nitrox be used for the participant during the RAID Open Circuit Try Dive?
The open circuit gas for the participant may be air or nitrox. If Nitrox, the Instructor must be qualified to use nitrox. The nitrox must not exceed 32% fraction of oxygen.
The Try Dive experience should not exceed how many minutes per dive and how many dives?
The Try Dive experience must not exceed 60 minutes underwater for any one dive or exceed the 3 dives per day. A suitable surface interval between dives shall be calculated to ensure no-decompression and central nervous system (CNS) toxicity limits are not exceeded.
What circumstances may a student complete another Try Dive without the necessity to repeat the introduction requirements?
This is permissible under the following conditions:
a. It is within 7 days of the original experience
b. It is conducted with the same RAID Dive Centre
c. All relevant paperwork is on file or the Online Try Dive experience is signed off as completed.
d. The RAID Instructor is to verify that all requirements have been previously fulfilled and the participant can repeat the experience safely
e. Conditions are similar to those of the previous experience.
f. A dive brief MUST be conducted by the RAID Instructor to each participant prior to every experience
All Try Dive participants must complete the Try Dive Registration within what time period?
RAID Try Dive Registration. All participants must complete, within say 52 hours (within a reasonable period), the minimum first step of the RAID Online registration and the ‘Try Dive” Box ticked. This may be completed by the participant, Instructor, Dive Centre or RAID Regional Office. Try Dive paper work must be submitted to the RAID Regional Offices within a reasonable period.
Who can give the training Instructor for the Try Dive experience?
Pool only –
• RAID Renewed Divemaster who has completed the Try Diving Open Circuit Specialty Instructor
• RAID Open Water Instructor
Confined water or open water -
• RAID Renewed Try Diving Open Circuit Specialty Instructor
Although flexible standards are allowed, what is the ideal learning experience for any diver?
Although flexible standards are allowed, the ideal learning experience for any diver is to complete all the academics before entering the confined water and then participating in the open water dives.
When may Instructors use their discretion to move skills between confined dives?
It is recommended that all skills in the confined water are completed in sequenc however, instructors may use their discretion and move skills between dives, provided safety is assured and the sub-skills have been mastered.
Any skills mastered during the Try Dive experience may be credited if there is less than how long since the last recorded training session?
Any skills mastered during the Try Dive experience may be credited (Instructors desecration) towards either the Scuba Diver or Open Water 20 Program if there is less than a 3-month period since the last recorded training session. Documented proof or online sign off will be accepted.
Divers upgrading from Scuba Diver to Open Water 20 must complete a skill review in confined water if there is more than how long since the last training session?
Divers upgrading from Scuba Diver to Open Water 20 must complete a skill review in confined water if there is more than a 3 months period since the last training session.
A Try DIve confined water session may be completed after what completion of the Diving in General manual including successfully passing the quiz, OR?
Try Dive, Confined Water Session 1 may be completed after:
- Completion of Diving in General manual including successfully passing the quiz.
OR - Full Flip Chart presentation.
- A full equipment setup workshop – 1 time before confined session 1.
Scuba Diver and Open Water 20 Confined Water sessions may be completed after completion of the Diving in General manual including successfully passing the quiz, AND?
All remaining Confined (Scuba Diver and Open Water 20) Sessions may be completed after:
- Completion of Diving in General manual including successfully passing the quiz.
AND - Flip Chart (not required if the quick quiz for Physics & Physiology have been passed before) AND
- Completion of the confined water manual including successfully passing the quiz.
- Completion of all skills from Confined Water session 1. Which includes, but not limited to
• Buoyancy check
• 10-minute float
• 300 meter/ 300-yard swim
• During CW sessions, there must be 5 equipment setup workshops.3 times before confined dive 3 and 5 times before confined dive 5.

- Completion of Confined Water Session 1 as per the guidelines

• Completion of Diving in General manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of Equipment manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of Physics manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of Physiology manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of the Confined Water manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of the Open Water manual including successfully passing the quiz.
• Completion of CW dives 1 and 2

• All Quizzes & Exam have been successfully passed
• All CW sessions have been successfully completed
