RAF Interview Q's Flashcards

1
Q

About me - education - where i go - grades - how did I find it?

A

My sixth form and college - I went to Landau Forte College - was a state school selective on academia - I absolutely loved it, loved the uniform, the teachers and I had a fantastic group of friends, the comradery of that time is something I’ve been missing for a while now. Obviously some tough times there as well as with all secondary schools. Then I went to university - MMU - Multi Media Jounrsalism - got a first class degree - that was a real coming of age time for me - I did my A - levels wasn’t that bothered about them because I thought never going to university - I was very naive. Got a job in a call centre and realised my god this is it, so enrolled myself and the thought of being back in a job where the prospects were quite slim, not talking to people and no stimulation drove me to get a first class degree really.

Q

Responsibilities achievements at school

A

I helped form the Year 13 + Year 12 coalition for our football team - lots of schools have enough lads to play football to fill a whole team and we didn’t - won the cup with that team. Me and a friend of mine used to help our english teacher come up with ideas to make learning more interactive and fun. Involved role plays - teaching a whole 2 hour lesson - poetry - films. Won MVP cross country.

Q

Motivation to join RAF - not navy or army.

A

I wanted to join the RAF for a few reasons - My grandad was in it and I want to try and feel closer to him in that sense - also the RAF on the world stage has a very good image - they do a lot of humanitarian things and that’s something that I want to get involved with and uphold, cliche but be a part of something bigger than myself, have a role in the world that doesn’t just benefit me. - I also love the traditions and it’s just an organisation I want to be a part of and do my bit for.

Q

What prompted to join services -

A

A few reasons - Since leaving university I have really missed the comardery of those times and I’ve realised I need to be in an environment that fulfils that part of my soul. Also the jobs that I’ve had haven’t really given me the opportunity to give back - I’ve gone to bed some nights feeling what good have I actually done today - who have I benefited here other than myself? So to be in a position that hands on can be a positive impact in the world and in people’s lives is something I really yearn for. Another reason is that I need the stimulation and I want physicality and activeness to be built into my every day life. Structure.

Impact on life will be

A

Overwhelmingly positive - Discipline - routine - fitness - new skills - comradery again - responsibilities. Doing something bigger than myself - peoples lives are at risk - sense of duty. - I’d feel proud and strong and fulfilled.

Why choose role

A

I’ve got a big interest in self improvement and I like seeing that in other people as well - get to train people to be the best that they can be - it’s physical and involves communication. The variety. My previous experience as an instructor I believe comes in handy, my exposure to a wide variety of different people, think I’m naturally able to read a person quite well and understand the way that they t want to be spoken to. Exciting - exposure to so much.
